Have I paid my welfare fund, insurance fee and other fees?

In Bangladesh, there are other mandatory fees such as the welfare fund and insurance. There are benefits from these funds so make sure that you or your employer have paid for it. You pay them during the process of application for overseas employment, usually when you apply for the overseas employment certificate. This is one of the requirements for you to complete the application process and ready to be deployed.

The Welfare fund is:

  • Membership based, paid prior to departure by migrant worker, valid through duration of employment contract In Bangladesh migrants need to pay to Wage earners welfare Board amount ranges from USD 25-50 depending on the country (in Bangladesh fee is 3500 taka paid to the wage earners welfare board.
  • Benefits include welfare assistance, loans, repatriation, injury and death benefits, family support, scholarships, etc.
  • Only paying members can avail of benefits; mandatory in most countries

The Insurance is:

  •  In most countries, paid by the employer/recruiter
  • Depending on the type of insurance, most benefits are for physical injuries, medical needs, death, etc.
  • Mandatory in Bangladesh and two schemes is available where the amount is 2 lakh and 5 lakh. For 2 lakh premiums is 990 BDT taka and for 5 lakh premiums is 2475 BDT taka. It is a contributory scheme where wage earners welfare board contributed 500 BDT taka in both schemes and rest of the amount will be paid by the migrants.
